The woman who was victimized at age 14 by an actor in Shane Black’s Predator is thanking actress Olivia Munn for standing up for her.
When Munn found out that Steven Wilder Striegel, a friend of Black’s, was a registered sex offender, she asked 20thCentury Fox to cut the scene he was in. Munn later said that the studio eventually complied, but not without dragging its feed. Black later apologized for the casting decision.
Paige Carnes, 24, contacted the Los Angeles Times to explain that she was the person who Striegel targeted 10 years ago, when she was just 14 (he was 38 at the time.)
“I was not able to speak for myself when I was 14,” she wrote to The Times. “I have no shame for what was done to me,” she continued. “I am not the one who needs to carry that shame.”
She added: “Support can come in many forms. Sometimes all it takes is one person speaking up for you, acknowledging your worth as a human being. I am extremely fortunate to have a father and mother that love me unconditionally. My father has supported me in my healing and growth in ways I cannot thank him enough for.”
Munn took to Twitter to applaud Carnes for going public.
